Same-Day Crowns – A Modern Approach

Are you feeling self-conscious about a broken or chipped tooth?

A dental crown is one of the best options to:

  • Protect your tooth
  • Restore functionality
  • Improve your smile

Traditionally, the procedure for dental crowns often includes two or three visits over a few weeks.

Your dentist completes the preparation work, and the prosthetic crown is prepared in a laboratory. At the same time, your dentist would fit a temporary crown to be worn.

This process works well but also takes a while to complete. And we all know how frustrating it is to wait for something.

But what if there was a way to avoid going back and forth for multiple appointments and complete the entire procedure in a single visit?

Well, now there is, thanks to modern technology and CEREC same-day crowns.

Six steps to a same-day crown

CEREC same-day crowns allows us to design, fit, and install your crown in a single dental appointment.

Here is what you can expect when you visit Mint Dental of Franklin for our same-day crown service:

The exam and screening

We’ll conduct a complete patient review, including previous dental treatments and current oral and overall health.

We’ll also take this time to discuss your smile goals in more detail and determine whether a crown is truly in your best interests. We prioritize education to help you make confident decisions about your oral health.

Treatment and preparation

Dr. Olga will remove any infected, weak, or damaged dental tissue depending on the tooth’s condition or oral health.

Next is the preparation of the tooth. For this, we remove a layer of enamel to make room for the crown. Removing the enamel also roughens the tooth’s surface, providing a better bonding surface for the crown.

Intraoral scanning

Your dentist will create a digital image of your mouth, capturing the unique shape of the prepared tooth. From here, they’ll be able to create a full 3d model of your tooth (and its planned crown).

Modeling and design

Dr. Olga will design a crown that fits perfectly over the prepared tooth.

A major advantage is that you can preview what your teeth will look like after the process. You can request adjustments, which can be incorporated into the design.

Creating your crown

After making any adjustments, the final design is sent to the milling machine. Like a 3D printer, the milling unit will use the design to carve a crown out of a suitable ceramic block.

Fitting

Lastly, your dentist will use dental adhesive/cement to bond your new crown to the tooth. Your new smile is ready to go!

Five benefits of CEREC crowns

Time-efficient

CEREC crowns can be designed, milled, and placed in a single appointment, reducing the need for multiple visits to the dentist.

Customizable

CEREC crowns can be designed and customized to match your teeth in color and shape,  keeping them discreet and indistinguishable from neighboring teeth.

Strong and durable

CEREC crowns are made of a strong ceramic material that can withstand daily wear and tear, making them durable. These can last for decades with proper care, and are no weaker than traditional crowns.

Biocompatible

CEREC crowns are made of a biocompatible ceramic material, which means they are well tolerated by the body and do not cause allergic reactions.

Cost-effective

CEREC crowns can be a cost-effective alternative to traditional crowns, as they do not require a dental lab, which can lower the cost of the procedure.

Final thoughts

CEREC crowns offer several benefits over conventional crowns providing an attractive option for patients who need to restore their teeth.

The convenience of preparing for, designing, creating, and fitting a crown in one appointment means you can have a new smile in the same time it takes to have your lunch break.
